Czech violinist, violin composer and pedagogue, born 22 February, 1883 in Ústí nad Orlicí (Wildenschwert) (Czech republic; then Austro-Hungarian Empire), died 7 March, 1950 in Prague (Czech republic; then Czechoslovakia). [1]

The Kocian Violin Competition for young violinists held annually in his birth place, Ústí nad Orlicí, is named after him and the mandatory pieces usually feature one of his compositions.
