Czech violinist, violin composer and pedagogue, born 22 February, 1883 in Ústí nad Orlicí (Wildenschwert) (Czech republic; then Austro-Hungarian Empire), died 7 March, 1950 in Prague (Czech republic; then Czechoslovakia). 
The Kocian Violin Competition for young violinists held annually in his birth place, Ústí nad Orlicí, is named after him and the mandatory pieces usually feature one of his compositions.
